Tragic end to outing for friends

KOTA KINABALU: A National Day eve outing by three friends ended in tragedy when two of them died in a road accident.
Jonathan Van Brugh Fung, 18, and his friend Shelly Ng Sheau Wei, 19, died on the spot when the car they were travelling in skidded off the road and smashed into a power line post at Jalan Lintas in Luyang here around 2.30am yesterday.
The third friend, identified as Edwin Loong Seh Yee suffered injuries and was admitted to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
Fung, whose mother was former national athlete Soo Chong Peng and who died in April after an illness, was the driver while Ng was in the front passenger seat and Loong in the rear seat.
All three victims were pinned inside the vehicle. It took firemen about two hours to extricate them.
