tribute

been wanting to write this.. but wasn't really sure how to start.. *grinz*.. now i'm not sure if i will end~~ hehehehe..

was watching gymnastics on tv that day.. and i'm sure a lot of people enjoy watching it. but possibly, without much understanding. :) gymnastics is divided into 2 types. artistic gymnastics and rythmic gymnastics. i want to talk about artistic gymnastics.

two catergories, men's (mag) and women's (wag). stands for men's artistic gymnastics and women's artistic gymnastics. for mag, there are 6 apparatus, namely the vault, rings, pommel horse, high bars, floor exercise and parallel bars. for wag, there are only 4, which are the vault, uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise.

in competitions, the 1st competition would be team event. in this event, each country or state will send a team. in malaysia, the team would consist of 6 members. and for each apparatus, 5 would compete. and the 4 highest scores will be taken into count. (this varies for different competitions and for different levels.)

during the team competition, the gymnast with the highest individual scores will qualify for the individual all round event. a maximum of 2 gymnast allowed per state. gymnast with the highest apparatus scores will qualify for individual apparatus competition.

yes. that means if you are good. u may be in for team event, individual all round and also for each apparatus.

confused yet? *smilez* i'm on a roll~

now comes the even more confusing part!! scoring~~ muahahaha..

gymnastics has been known for its magical perfect 10. and honestly.. there's almost no way a gymnast can score a perfect 10. the most, we can try to achieve a start value of 10.

whats start value?

you see, in every competition, there are certain requirements or standards for each apparatus. there is a set amount of difficulty that the gymnast has to perform. difficulty levels are measured by the alphabeths A, B, C, D, E and super E. with A being the lowest.

so, depending on the competition, the requirements will be different.

for instance, the requirements for MSSM is 4 A, 3 B, 2 C. each carrying a deduction if not performed. there are also 6 special requirements that carry a 0.2 deduction each if not performed. all these will add to the start value. if a gymnast fuifills all the requirements, the start value will be 9.8 .. the 0.2 is a bonus mark which can be earned by performing extra elements out of the requirement. e.g extra C is 0.1.. performin a D will earn 0.2
having a higher start value means that a gymnast has more points to be deducted from.

sooo confusing right?? hehehehe.. you can stop reading~~

niways.. enough of all that la..

i was a gymnast.. since i was 10.. till last year.. and personally.. i love this sport very very much.. theres always something new to be learnt. unlike running, when all you strive is to run faster. or trying to jump higher, swim faster.. the elements in gymnastics are unending. and if ever you master all the skills listed, you create your own. and it will be named after you. :) how cool is that??

i kinda regret that i never really trained seriously in my later years as a gymnast.. age was catchin up and i felt that i wasn really good enough. it takes a lot of commitment to train all the time. don even have the chance to now.. even if i wanted to. sighz..

missing the sport.. it's in my blood..

for the love of gymnastics..

(actually got so much more to type.. but.. hahaha.. no la.. next time~)
